| They finally patched this last week. I haven't downloaded the patch yet myself but from what other people have been saying, it runs fine. I'll be getting back into this in a few day's time. I've been hooked on several games at the moment: Pinball FX, Catan, Final Fantasy XI Online, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and LOTR: Battle For Middle-Earth II.
Update 1.2.0416 Notes
Bug Fixes
Fixed a crash caused by bad form IDs
Fixes an issue where the game would try to use a form IDs that was either restricted or not available yet.
Fixed an issue where form IDs were not being marked as free properly, causing objects to disappear in game.
| | |
| The following info was taken from a post on the official Oblivion forums. Playing Oblivion for a certain amount of hours after downloading SI causes items to disappear! I for one am not touching my game until they patch this.
Quoted from two posts on the official Oblivion forums:
POST ONE
DO NOT BE CONCERNED IF YOU DO NOT HAVE SHIVERING ISLES
Here's whats up:
If
you drop an item it is assigned an ID number, normally those IDs range
from FF000000-FFFFFFFF. Now, some items have what we call a STATIC ID,
which means the game never changes that ID no matter what. However,
just because the item is UNIQUE, it doesn't mean that it has a STATIC
ID assigned to it. Once in the game world, the ID can change on drop,
pick up, drop, etc. Just like any other item.
Now, with this
bug, the offending scripts cause that ID range to increase at 60 IDs
per second on the XBOX ( ONLY during gamemode, ie. walking in the
wilderness, fighting, etc. NOT in inventory) when that range is
exhausted, which will happen in 75 to 80 hours after you start a new
game with SI ( Note: These hours are only valid if you NEVER access
your inventory, a book, or other such menu item, during the course of
that time). Also note, that THIS part of the bug ( the part where
having SI installed causes a use of 60 IDs per second ) is CONFIRMED.
If Bethesda denies it they can... well you get the idea, because it IS
TRUE, and I would stake much on it.
Finally, the unconfirmed part on the XBOX is this:
When those IDs reach FFFFFFFF, will they roll over to 00000000 or back to FF000000?
Now, the only way we as a community can verify this is to do the DROP TEST:
If you think you have enough time in: drop an item on the ground (
preferrably multiple items of a variety, just to be sure) , and save
while looking at those items. If the IDs for those items have rolled
over, and are in the 00****** range this will happen: After you have
shut down the XBOX and then restart Oblivion! You will see on the
picture of your save those items. IF YOU HAVE THE BUG Upon loading of that save game they WILL BE GONE.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- POST TWO
Shivering Isles content does drastically speed up FormID Usage on the XBOX 360!!
Ok everyone. It has been confirmed. Thanks to Nephele for the saves she uploaded to me from his XBOX. Here are the findings:
IDs used PRE SI: 2.3 PER SECOND IDs used POST SI: 58 PER SECOND ( average between the two POST SI saves )
Total estimated play time from new game with SI installed is 75 to 80 hours before you would experience the bug.
UPDATE:
We seem to be getting mixed reports about the total time required to
see the bug. However, I must note that the save I used to calculate the
time is a worst case senario. All the in game SI time was in Game Mode
(ie. the player just standing there). However, the FormID doesn't go up
while in MenuMode ( ie. your inventory, reading journals, books, etc. )
yet the total time played does. And it is assumed a fair amount of time
will be spent reading journal entries, books, checking items, etc.
What
this means: My calculations are based on play time without EVER going
into menu mode. Since it is a large part of the game to read journal
entries, books, and what not then the total playable recorded game time
could be considerably higher than my estimate.
Just wanted to
let you guys know that the hours of gameplay could vary. Since the
total time played counter ALWAYs counts, and the bug only occurs during
GameMod ( ie whilst running around) . Thus making it very hard to
calculate how long exactly each person would take to get to this bug.
Very dependent on time spent in the inventory and other menus.
Thanks again to Nephele as she was the one that pointed this out to me!
Here are the rest of the facts:
50 hour game PRE SI: Fbomb Count: FF06573F IDs USED: 415551 IDs USED PER HOUR: 8311 IDs USED PER MINUTE: 138 IDs USED PER SECOND: 2.3
50 hour game + 1 hour SI content : Fbomb Count: FF094F7F IDs USED: 610175 IDs USED PER HOUR: 194624 IDs USED PER MINUTE: 3243 IDs USED PER SECOND: 54
50 hour game + 3 hour SI content : Fbomb Count: FF109489 IDs USED: 1086601 IDs USED PER HOUR: 223683 IDs USED PER MINUTE: 3728 IDs USED PER SECOND: 62
50 hour game + 9 hours 38min SI content : Fbomb Count: FF269391 IDs USED: 2528145 IDs USED PER HOUR: 219376.32 IDs USED PER MINUTE: 3656 IDs USED PER SECOND: 60.9
Total ID's available: 16777215
This confirms that, although slower, XBOX USERS ARE EFFECTED!!!!
NOTE: It
is still uknown whether the game will roll those IDs back to FF or to
00 on the XBOX. Judging by this test, it SHOULD effect XBOX users
exactly the same way it does PC players! IE: LOSS OF ITEMS LEFT IN THE
GAME WORLD! However, there can be no definate answer until someone hits
80+ hours with SI and reports a loss of items.
TO SUM UP!! ALL SIGNS POINT TO PC AND XBOX HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!! USE YOUR OWN JUDGEMENT!!!
A little calculation for figuring total play time remaining for XBOX users: ( based on my ID usage estimates )
Take total PRE SI playtime and multiply it by 8311 Subtract the answer from 16777215 Then divide that answer by 208800
The
final answer will be a rough estimate of hours remaining THAT YOU CAN
PLAY SI BEFORE you reach the bug point (ie. disappearing weapons etc.) .
Of course if you have SI time in already, you will need to subtract that from your total hours remaining. If you have only SI time in, then subtract that time from 75 or 80.
